When the bell rings signaling the end of the school year, students of all ages can’t afford to take long breaks from reading. Studies show youth that don’t read over the summer, especially reluctant or struggling readers, lose important ground. One of the best places for children to become comfortable with reading is your local library. Beginning June 6, we invite readers of all ages to join this year’s Oceans of Possibilities summer reading program to prevent the summer reading slide. Logging your reading is simple, using the Beanstack website or app, available for iOS and Android

You can also pre-register for summer reading before June 6! The first 25 children, 25 tweens, and 10 teens to sign up for summer reading will receive a goody bag. After reading 12 and 24 hours, visit the Children’s Desk to collect prizes! The first 12 children to complete 24 hours win a jumbo squishy and the first 15 tweens and 15 teens to complete 24 hours each win a Squishmallow and are entered to a raffle for a fantastic grand prize. Readers who log the most amount of time in each age group win a special prize!

Since we don’t think kids should have all the fun, adults, 18 and up, can earn badges by exploring the library and Safety Harbor community, by reading books and magazines, streaming films, and reviewing books for chances to win a prize every two weeks. The more badges completed, the better the chance of winning the grand prize of a $200 Visa gift card.

View our calendar of events for programs for all ages, including Terrific Tuesdays for children, which kicks off on June 7, 11:00 AM with a Drum Circle presented by Giving Tree Music. Events for all will be held throughout the summer and include cupcake wars and painting for tweens and teens and a seafood cooking demonstration and steel drum concert for adults.
